Yesterday I started my new job. And today marks the completion of my second day. There has been a little bit of a learning curve involved in it, but I could already see that I was becoming more familiar with my duties only on the second day. The people there are nice too. The lady that owns the business, Jennie, is in and out often. Another employee, Stephanie, whom I just met today, is also very nice. Then there are my boss’ parents that have a different business in the same building. They to are extremely kind as well.
My job is fairly simple in description. In practice, it is as I said before. It will get easier as I learn more of the ropes. But as far as a description of my job is concerned, I am responsible for looking at any orders that come in, then grabbing the correct item from inventory, then preparing that item/items for shipment, and lastly boxing and putting it out for UPS to pickup. And all the while I can listen to radio, which really makes time fly. That seems pretty simple, right? Well, I honestly can say it is not a bad job at all.
My only problem today was that I didn’t take a lunch to work. I did this partly on purpose because yesterday I ate lunch at work and it messed up my stomach. So I thought maybe I shouldn’t eat till evening when I get home from work. However, since I didn’t eat breakfast in the morning either, I was starting to get a little dizzy by the end of the workday. But I survived and ate something as soon as I got home. Stephanie was very nice and offered to share her lunch with me, but I refused as kindly as possible, not saying anything about my special diet. They’ll find out soon enough, I’m sure, as everyone does eventually.
Tonight is Halloween, and I have no plans besides my evening walk. Now that I think about it, maybe I ought to leave early for my walk, because there are going to be a lot of kids out. But anyway, I will be staying at home while so many other people will be having fun. But that is part of the sacrifice of moving to a brand new place. While I am still working on developing friendships in this new world, I am really encouraged that things are moving in the right direction. Praise God.
Update: I realized once I went on my walk that there were not enough people walking around for Halloween. Then I checked my calendar, and it turns out Halloween is on Monday. Go figure. That shows how much I know about Halloween.
