Today is Saturday, the end of a rather eventful week. On Thursday, I was driving to school, and I was probably less than a mile away when my right front tire blew out. I wasn’t about to get stranded on the side of the rode, so I drove the rest of the way to school – or maybe I should say crawled because I couldn’t really go that fast. Anyway, I didn’t have time to put my spare on right away because I had to get to my speech class. Maybe it was God’s blessing, or maybe it was just luck, but my teacher had canceled the class for the day, so I went back to my car. Immediately I went to get my spare tire out of the trunk only to find everything rusted. The rim on the spare was rusted, but usable. The jack on the other hand was not. So I was stuck. I asked a few people around for a jack, but apparently most jacks are made with big cars in mind. My car rides very close to the ground. While asking people for help, I wound up talking to a pothead. Apperently he’s in a band. We had an interesting conversation. It’s really the first time I ever talked to a full-fledged pothead. By the way, he called himself a pothead, it wasn’t me. Well, in the end I was thankfull that my Amaco Motor club card was still active, so I was able to get someone out with enough time to spare to get to my next class.
Today I spent part of the day buying a used tire and fortunately my dad had a car jack that fit under my car. I was able to hand out tracks to a couple people this week. One was yesterday at a gas station. One fellow came up to me and said he had no money, and he had run out of gas. At first I apologized and told him to get lost. Oh, just kidding. I did, however, tell him that I did not carry any cash on me which is conveniently true. However, a few minutes passed and it occurred to me that I could pump the gas for him and use my ATM card. So that’s what I did. I bought him two gallons of gas which ended up being a little over $6 with gas prices these days. But we talked a bit, and I was able to give him a tract before we parted ways.
On Tuesday I think it was, a group of students were getting people to sign petitions for various environmental/political issues, some of which I agreed with. I signed the ones I agreed with, and refused to sign the ones I didn’t. In the process I also got registered to vote in California, so that was an added perk. Anyway, I got to talking with the girl explaining the petition, and somehow our conversation veered off into religion. It turns out she’s a total nut case that believes that everybody is good and that the world is being tainted by evil, and mother nature is going to wipe out all evil and start from scratch. It kinda reminds me of the Iranian president. But I was able to share with her my religion and tell her that people are essentially evil people. She was fairly receptive, but she is of that mindset that everybody is entitled to their own opinions just as long as you don’t tell somebody that their opinion is wrong. I guess I crossed the line a bit and she started to get frustrated with me. But I was able to give her a tract, to which I got the response, “I’m an environmentalist, so you’ll be wasting paper if you give that to me.” Knowing what she believed after our 30+ minute conversation, I insisted that she take it and not even consider throwing it away unless she knew she had all the answers. She took it and responded that she did not have all the answers. After that we parted ways, and the rest is up to Providence. That is a snapshot of my week. Exciting, huh?
